The second round of Sectional play against Covenant Christian was a tough one. They not only had multiple quality players, but came out in a formation that really made it tough on our playmakers. It was a very physical game that was played mainly in the middle of the field.
Covenant Christian broke through at times where Halle Freihofer came out with 3 big saves. Most of our chances came from distance. It wasn't until 90 seconds left in the second OT when the free kick of Elise DeTrude was played into the box where Kayla Delaney came through to head it in for the winner. It was a very hard fought game which came down to the wire.
Game Stats
Sectional time is here and our first opponent is Cardinal Ritter. Every game from here on out will be tough so we need to be well prepared. Riding a seven game unbeaten streak into the postseason has really given the girls some confidence.
The first half was a bit sloppy as we did not control the ball very well at all. Everyone seemed a bit nervous on the ball and we rarely connected multiple passes in a row. We did score 10 minutes into the game as Maddie Malatestinic served a ball where Claire Kelley came through to put it away. A 1-0 lead at the half was not enough as the Raiders had a few players who caused us trouble.
We appeared to get the butterflies out at the half as we came out in the second 40 minutes and played much better. A majority of the play took place on our attacking half and we found the net three more times. Kayla Delaney was on the end of another Malatestinic service to put us ahead 2-0. Melissa Snider got the third off a through ball from Rachel Dill. Claire Kelley got her second of the night off a Elly Hahn pass to close out the scoring at 4-0. Halle Freihofer recorded her 10th shutout of the season while recording 3 saves on the night.
