The Marion County Tournament opens for Brebeuf against Roncalli in the first round. We saw the Rebels at the beginning of the season and won 6-1. We came in knowing it wouldn't be as easy as these tournament games mean so much more.
We were fortunate enough to set the tone again as we came out to score early with Maddie Malatestinic giving us a 1-0 lead just three minutes in. Claire Kelley played Maddie through and she calmly put it away. Just past the halfway mark in the first half, Malatestinic found her second goal of the night after receiving a ball from Rachel Dill through the midfield. Chloe Burton put us up 3-0 as she finished home a ball she received from Amanda Repass.
After Roncalli applied some pressure to end the half, we knew we had to put them away early in the second half. We did just that as both Burton and Malatestinic capped off the scoring by both getting a hat trick on the night. Claire Kelley was heavily involved as she recorded 3 assists in the game.
This was the way we wanted to start out the tournament as we played with speed on both sides of the ball. We also did a great job of getting numbers around the ball to win it back whenever we lost it. It was a very good effort by everyone who played.
