2011 vs. Crown Point

Varsity

We welcomed #14 Crown Point to town as our first of 2 games on Saturday. Being unfamiliar with one another, the
two teams were just working on trying to figure out each other. Although we kept the ball fairly well, we exposed ourselves a few times to allow
Crown Point to have a few looks.

With 13 minutes left in the 1st half, a great build up was capped off with a service played in from Colleen
Moorman in which Claire Kelley was on the other end of it to record her first goal of the 2011 campaign. It was her day as goal # 2 for Kelley came in the 2nd half which came off a rebound from a Melissa Snider shot. We then relaxed a little bit which allowed the visitors to get one back off a free kick. Four minutes later, Kate Clark put home a Penalty to give us a 3-1 lead and Maddie Malatestinic capped the scoring off after finishing a through ball played by Snider. We had 24 shots to their 7 and led in corners 5-1.

Goals: Claire Kelley (2), Kate Clark, Maddie Malatestinic

Assists: Colleen Moorman, Melissa Snider (2)

Saves: Annie Clark (6)

Game Stats

Junior Varsity

An excellent morning for soccer, the Lady Braves came out to beat undefeated Crown Point 1-0.  Great energy team-wide allowed for a total control of posession in the first half. Just 26 minutes into the game Anne Marie Meyers broke away down the left side of the field to send a beautiful cross that deflected to Captain Betsy Bennet. Betsy was able to rip a shot in to the left pocket of the goal for an uncontested 1-0 lead.

Knowing that a one goal lead was not safe the Braves came out on fire for the second half.  They battled hard all game and had many close chances to finish on goal.  This offensive minded play allowed for us to hold on to our victory and finish the morning strong.

Special thanks go to Kate Hahn and Kaitlyn Brickey for outstanding keeper play.
