2011 Regionals

Carmel


The Regional Final comes against #1 Carmel who was also a Top 3 team in the ESPN Rise Rankings. Going into this game, we knew it would be tough, but believed we could get it done.

That attitude showed with our first half performance as we were the better team for the first 40 minutes. Both teams created opportunities, but we were the ones to find the net first. Claire Kelley put away what could be the goal of the year after five consecutive one-touches. The build up included quick touches by Jen Dimos, Abbie Enright, and Mel Snider who played it out to Maddie Malatestinic who sent in the service for Kelley to finish off. We were then able to create two more good looks unfortunately not finding the net. With under 3 minutes left in the half, the Greyhounds got the equalizer and some momentum going into the break.

Less than 5 minutes into the 2nd half, Carmel got what would end up being the game winner to go up 2-1. Freshman Annie Clark kept us in the game recording 13 saves as her and the whole backline had another solid game. Although it was a tough way to go out, it was good to see the girls play their best soccer at the end of the season. It was a great season for all!

In the Regional semi-final we faced the #7 ranked Avon Orioles. Another team we have not seen this year, Avon was undefeated and had only giving up 5 goals on the season.

The first 40 minutes were a bit shakey for both team as they were working to get the nerves out and figure each other out. Avon had more opportunties, but we had one great look of our own as Melissa Snider got through on a 1v1 with Avon's keeper who made a great save.

The second half was more back and forth as both teams were looking to get that go ahead goal. It wasn't until 8 minutes left when Maddie Malatestinic put in a set piece from the corner where eventually Jen Dimos found the net for the 1-0 lead. Our defense held strong as they did all game along with keeper annie Clark making multiple key saves to get the shutout. The Lady Braves won their seventh in a row to move on to the Regional Final.
