The Lady Braves were looking for their fifth win in a row against the visitors from Warren Central. We knew an improved team would show up from WC and we would have to be ready for the challenge.
Both teams had their fair share of the ball in the 1st half, but neither side was too threatening. The game opened up a bit more in the second half allowing each team to have more opportunities on goal. With about ten minutes left in the game, the Braves went down to 10 players after a red card was given. It gave us a little boost as four minutes later Maddie Malatestinic crossed in a ball in which Rachel Dill put away on the back post for her first goal of the season. The home side held on for the 1-0 victory.
Goals: Rachel Dill
Assists: Maddie Malatestinic
Saves : Annie Clark (4 & Shutout)
Another stellar performance by the Junior Varsity Lady Braves in beating Warren Central 6 to 0. Just eight minutes into the half Tayler Fitts was played the ball down the left side of the field by defender Clare Corr. Tayler beat one player, turned to face the goal and ripped an outside shot that went into the upper side pocket of the net. A beautiful goal to start the game out on! With ten minutes to play in the half, Zoe Stein challenged the goalie for a ball near post that came from Annemarie Meyers' cross. Zoe was able to flick the ball on to Maren Graham running into the box who put the goal away. At half time the Braves were up two to zero which is a dangerous lead in soccer! Betsy Bennet took her turn as second half keeper for us after a great first half performance with two near goal chances (bouncing off inside posts)!
The third goal came off a corner kick, which is something the girls had been working on all last week of practice! I was very proud when Annemarie sent a beautiful corner in from the left side that Zoe Stein was able to finish out of the air! The corner was set up by a great free kick Abby Dill sent into the box where Annemarie battled for the ball forcing a corner. Minutes later Maren was able to find Zoe and return the favor and effort sending her a great ball that Zoe put in the back of the net for us. Everyone was goal hungry today on the JV Lady Braves, especially Junior Alexa Isbell. With a great opportunity on a breakaway soaring just over the goal, Alexa was determined to finish one for us today! Five minutes remained in the game when Alexa unselfishly served Freshman Kate Hahn for a great finish. Alexa put her goal away with two minutes to play in the game, fighting to the last minute alongside the rest of our offense. Zoe Stein served a ball in from the left side of the field where Alexa scrapped for the ball on the goal line and was able to out-power the Warren defense and finish for a great effort goal. Awesome job today for the whole team, I was very proud of the girls.
