We traveled to North Central expecting a talented opponent and if not for a couple of breaks for us the game could have been different.
We started a little impatient but after 5 minutes were able to settle down and the first goal came quickly. Jen Dimos made a run to the left side of the area put the ball on her right foot and sent a cross into the box. The cross bounced between the keeper and the only NC center back and waiting to take advantage was Mel Snider who beautifully stuck her foot out and put the ball beyond the reach of the NC keeper to make the score 1-0 for Brebeuf.
NC started to gain momentum and had good possession after the goal. Their chance to tie came when our defense was spread out and beat and NC had a 2v1. GK Amanda Pont who came out made herself big but the timing of the shot was perfect, as the ball headed toward the net an onrushing NC forward tapped it in. However, the forward was offsides and the score remained 1-0. It was a wake-up for us and a psychological hit for them.
Toward the end of the first half, with Tayler Fitts at forward, we stretched their defense and it was off to the races for a 1v1 with the keeper who stood no chance as Tayler technically placed it in the bottom left corner for a 2-0 Brebeuf lead.
At halftime we knew we could do better keeping possession and exploiting NC’s weaknesses. Two minutes into the second half, a cross from Mel Snider bounced in the box, NC could not clear it, and the ball fell to Betsy Bennett who calmly took a touch and with power put it in to make the score 3-0 for Brebeuf. We stayed aggressive throughout the half but with 10 minutes left we lost possession in the midfield and opened it up to a similar 1v1 as in the first half but this time NC finished, without an offside. The final score was 3-1, leaving the team with 3-0 record and an outstanding 16 goals scored.
