2011 vs. Roncalli

The start of the 2011 season finally arrived and what a way to start it off. Just 20 seconds in, Freshman Reilly Martin found Maddie Malatestinic who put away this years first goal. This was a big start for us as we wanted to make sure we set the tone as an attacking team.

Over the next 15 minutes, both teams were just trying to build a rhythm. We began to control the game a bit more as we were able to put the ball on the ground which we feel allows us to play our style. That is how Melissa Snider found Martin who turned on her defender to find herself on her way to her first career goal. A 2-0 lead at half was good, but the girls were not satisfied.

Less then 2 minutes into the 2nd half, Amanda Repass found herself on the end of a Malatestinic corner to slot away goal number 3. We were able to keep the ball much better this half with a lot of the credit going to Rachel Dill who anchored the middle for us by winning multiple balls out of the air. Snider got on the scoring sheet herself by following up a rebound off the post from Martin. Goal number 5 came off a nice turn and shot from Martin with the assist credited to Claire Kelley. With 16 minutes left, the home side Rebals got on the scoreboard off a PK that Freshman Annie Clark nearly saved. It wasn't more than a minute for the Braves to strike back with a 35 yard goal off the foot of Kate Tenbarge which rounded out the scoring at 6-1. Next game is Wednesday at Pike with JV starting at 5:30pm.

Goals--Martin (2), Malatestinic, Repass, Snider, Tenbarge

 Game Stats

The Junior Varsity Lady Braves opened up the season with a 7-0 shutout. The first goal came from defense with a ball sent up the middle by freshman Maddie Pritchett to Sophomore Taylor Fitts who had a forward mentality and was able to one touch it around the last Roncalli defender, setting herself up for a beautiful breakaway and finish. Minutes later, Taylor Fitts played a through ball into sophomore Betsy Bennett who played to her natural talents of breakaway and score with a beautiful finish right past the keeper's reach. The third goal was scored off a corner kick where freshman Deirdre Kennedy was able to get her body on the ball and deflect it in the right direction.  Goal number four was a cross from freshman Kaitlyn Brickey who bursted down the field and found Taylor for a beautiful header goal. Kaitlyn was then able to sneak in behind the defense on a great run where Sophomore Zoe Stein slotted her a ball for the fifth goal of the night.  Rounding off the night, Taylor dropped into the center mid, won a ball out of the air off a punt and broke away from the defense to finish goal number six.  The last goal of the night came from a Brebeuf corner, sent in by Taylor Fitts, and deflected off one of Roncalli's own players.

We played team wide wonderful defense which lead us to our first shut out of the season.  Freshman Kate Hahn and Sophomore Abby Dill were great team leaders by each taking a half in goal tonight.  We have a very young team this year with a lot of special talent and potential. The overall team effort given was fantastic and we can only "keep moving forward" as we look to Wednesday's game against Pike.

Goals: Fitts (3), Bennett, Kennedy, Brickey, OG
