The start of the 2011 season finally arrived and what a way to start it off. Just 20 seconds in, Freshman Reilly Martin found Maddie Malatestinic who put away this years first goal. This was a big start for us as we wanted to make sure we set the tone as an attacking team.
Over the next 15 minutes, both teams were just trying to build a rhythm. We began to control the game a bit more as we were able to put the ball on the ground which we feel allows us to play our style. That is how Melissa Snider found Martin who turned on her defender to find herself on her way to her first career goal. A 2-0 lead at half was good, but the girls were not satisfied.
Less then 2 minutes into the 2nd half, Amanda Repass found herself on the end of a Malatestinic corner to slot away goal number 3. We were able to keep the ball much better this half with a lot of the credit going to Rachel Dill who anchored the middle for us by winning multiple balls out of the air. Snider got on the scoring sheet herself by following up a rebound off the post from Martin. Goal number 5 came off a nice turn and shot from Martin with the assist credited to Claire Kelley. With 16 minutes left, the home side Rebals got on the scoreboard off a PK that Freshman Annie Clark nearly saved. It wasn't more than a minute for the Braves to strike back with a 35 yard goal off the foot of Kate Tenbarge which rounded out the scoring at 6-1. Next game is Wednesday at Pike with JV starting at 5:30pm.
