Brebeuf vs. Guerin

Varsity

After a very intense game in 2009 at Guerin, we knew it would be the same back home this year.  With a good crown on hand, we were hoping to put on the best performance of the year so far.  Guerin was the one who came out with alot of pressue both defensively and offensively from the kick-off. They were able to create multiple opportunities in the 1st half which led to a 1-0 lead at the half. After playing a bit flat and sluggish that first half, we were lucky to only be down 0-1. But, we knew that we could put together a much better 2nd half and get this game back.

We did so right away in the second half as we put two goals away in the first 10 minutes. The first from Maddie Malatestinic off a Elise
DeTrude through ball that put Maddie in a 1v1 with the goalkeeper where she slotted it away nice and easy. Just a few minutes later, Kayla Delaney found the ball off a Guerin goalkick and played it to Amanda Repass who put away the second goal.

We continued to press for about 10 more
minutes until the Golden Eagles tied the game up at 2-2. It was then back and forth for the last 20 minutes until  Guerin found the game winner with 10 minutes to go. The Braves now look forward to a big weekend at the Zionsville Invitational where we face No.11 Brownsburg in the first game.

We went up early in the first half and again it was the duo of Jen Dimos playing Mel Snider for the left footed goal.  Before the half Guerin tied it up with their forwards taking advantage of a counter- attack and beating our backs in a 2v2.

Second half started off well for us and we were able to get a set piece early. Julia Sheehan took a corner that Guerin couldn't clear and Sara Hirschman got a piece of it, making the score 2-1. We continued to keep the majority of possession but, with 15 minutes left, the visitors tied it up with a nifty shot over GK Amanda Pont from inside the 18 yard box. Refusing to quit, we pressured high in their half for the last 10 minutes.  With less than 5 minutes left, Snider took a pass dribbled in the box from the right side and slide in a beautiful cross that went across the goal, but we couldn't get on it. Time expired and at the end of the day a tie was bit unfair for the Brebeuf effort.
