Brebeuf Jesuit Girls Soccer

Chatard v. Brebeuf

Varsity

This was an important game for us as we really wanted to get the season started with 2 wins. Chatard came into the game having already played 4 games and winning 3 of those. Once again, we came out with alot of energy, but our touch was a bit off and we could not connect that final pass to get us near the goal. As the game went on, we began to get comfortable on the ball and really showed how we could possess the ball.

Unfortunately, we were not as dangerous around the goal as we needed to be. Being a bit unlucky on the chances we had and solid goalkeeping by the home team, it stayed a 0-0 draw. We pushed numbers forward for the last 10 minutes, but were not able to find the net.  Tiara Winston had an outstanding game in the back both defending and getting involved in the attack.  Elise DeTrude and Rachel Dill both controlled the middle of the field and each finished up with 3 shots a piece.  Halle Freihofer recorded her first shutout of the year with 4 saves on the night. Although we did not get the result we wanted, the girls played well and now must shift their focus to our game vs. Guerin on Saturday.

Junior Varsity

Another victory for the Brebeuf Women’s JV Soccer team at Lawrence Park versus Chatard.   We came out a little slow due to a shorten warm-up but the momentum and confidence built throughout the first half as our technical ability and speed up top took over.  A foul just outside the area 10 minutes in resulted in the on form Jennifer Dimos taking the free kick and placing it without hesitation in the upper corner of the net.  Two minutes later in almost the exact spot on the left side as her first goal it was Dimos again capitalizing on a foul with the same placement over the Chatard keeper.

The Chatard GK looked good throughout the match or the score could have been more than 7-0.  Amanda Pont recorded her second shutout of the season.

The midfield of Julie Sheehan, Maddie Galt, and Taylor Fitts, and Zoe Stein controlled the ball the entire 70 minutes.   Betsy Bennett added a hat trick with great footwork, speed and quick finishing inside the box.  Colleen Moorman added her second goal of the season, this one from a set piece just before the end of the 1st half and she led the back line the entire evening.  Taylor Fitts rushed into the box and finished a nice combo with Melissa Snider in the second half along with Betsy Bennett’s third goal of the evening topping off the win for the Braves.
