Collierville (TN) is our first opponent in the Zionsville Invite (ESPN RISE Pool). Knowing nothing about this team allowed us to really focus on what we do well and play in that fashion. It was a fairly even game through out although I believe we kept possession of the ball a bit better then they did.
Our midfield played well and allowed us to keep the ball in order to build up with numbers. Maddie Malatestinic got the first goal as she went 1v1 with the goalkeeper after Reilly Martin put a through ball on to her. Before the half, Melissa Snider put us two goals ahead after a great build up starting with Amanda Repass. She then found Martin who kept the switch on to Colleen Moorman who then played a one time ball throw to Snider who put it away.
We felt good at the half but knew Collierville would come out hard to begin the second half. That they did as they struck just 4 minutes in from 30 yards out to narrow the gap to 2-1. We created a number of good opportunities over the next 35 minutes but could not put it away. Our defense held strong and limited our opponents chances to give us the 2-1 victory.
