Roncalli vs. Brebeuf
Varsity

As this was our last regular season game, it was important to have a good showing heading into post season.  I put in a new system for this game as I really wanted to get into the attack in a hurry. For the first half, it was almost the opposite. This game started off very slow and boring for those watching. We could never really get into a groove, which was surprising as we were playing on a turf surface which favors our technical game. A lot of it had to do with the kind of team Roncalli was. They were very physical and really did not allow us to have any time on the ball.

After getting knocked around a bit, the girls became frustrated and recognized we were the better team and began to work much harder. The second half was much better as a majority of the play was on our attacking half. Although the play was much better and we had our opportunities, our trouble finding the back of the net continued. We had a few sitters inside the 6 that could not be finished. With the time coming to an end, Elise DeTrude found Shelby Kroeger on a short corner which caught the home team by surprise, unfortunately Shelby’s shot found the post instead of the net. This game ended in a frustrated tie as we came off the field knowing we were the better team as we outshot them 13-3 and still had zeros on the board.

Tie 0-0

Shutout—Halle Friehofer

Junior Varsity

Despite less than favorable weather conditions, the Junior Varsity soccer team took on the Rebels of Roncalli High School and brought home a 2-0 victory.  The girls showed great poise as they controlled the game and out shot the Rebels.

Less than 5 minutes into the game the Braves were awarded a corner kick to be taken by Claire Kelley.  After a scramble in the box, Melissa Snider found the ball and the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game in favor of the Braves.  The team played tough defense and would take the lead into halftime.

With the weather starting to clear up going into the second half Brebeuf kept up the intensity and kept the pressure on the Rebels.  The five minute mark proved to be a good one for the Braves.  Chloe Burton dribbled the ball down the right side of the field, crossed it, and found Anna Zunica on the far post to make it a 2-0 Braves lead.

The game would finish with Brebeuf on top, taking their record to 10-1-4.  Amaris Grimme earned the shutout for the Braves.  The girls will complete their season the next night at University High School.

Won 2-0

Goals: Melissa Snider, Anna Zunica

Shutout: Amaris Grimme.
