Westfield vs. Brebeuf
Varsity

We find ourselves playing against another Top 20 program. This time it is the host #11 Westfield on their field turf surface. I was pleased to see this surface as I believe it favors our playing style as we try to keep the ball moving on the ground.

After two rough loses, I was hoping we would be ready to bounce back and recover from those performances. Just 2 minutes in, it looked like we would make it 3 in a row as we found ourselves down 1-0. But, that was not the case. After giving up a quick goal, the girls got going and fought hard to get that one back. That showed as we created seven first half corner kicks. Unfortunately, none of them found the back of the net. We had several attacks in the first half, but they were times where we were numbers down as we did not build up as a group as well as we would have liked. So our forwards were running at multiple defenders without much support which resulted in tough shots on goal.

We calmed down a bit in the second half and worked a little better as unit. Here we possessed better, but did not create much in the attacking end of the field. Halfway through the second half, the Shamrocks found the net again on a header from around the edge of the box. The girls did not give up as we put a goal of our own in minutes later off an indirect free kick inside the box. Jess Johnson touched it to Elise Detrude who put it over the wall which was built from post to post. That gave us some energy as did being up a player when a Westfield player got red-carded. Again, while we outshot our opponent, it was not enough to get a victory.

Junior Varsity

The JV soccer team played at Westfield High School and brought home a 2-1 victory for the Braves.  The girls showed great composure as they out shot Westfield and controlled the majority of the game.

Julia Sheehan got things started with a goal inside the six yard box off a great corner kick from Jennifer Dimos.  The Braves would hold on to this 1-0 lead until 15 minutes later when Westfield struck on a breakaway from the left side of the field.  They managed to touch the ball past our keeper to take a 1-1 tie into halftime.

The second half brought another offensive surge for Brebeuf and Anne Marshall found the back of the net from close range off a ball from Sam Mullennax.  The girls took the advantage in shots, saves, and corner kicks and an overall 2-1 win to bring their record to 9-1-3 on the season.
